Maryknoll School is a leader in transforming education to prepare students for the careers of the future. Maryknoll’s Mandarin Immersion Program, the first in Hawai‘i to take place during the school day, allows students to learn the world’s most widely spoken first language, creating global opportunities for educational and career aspirations.
While developing advanced proficiency in a second language, research shows that immersion students achieve the same levels of competence, or better, in academic subjects, including English, in addition to many cognitive benefits.
Our Mandarin Immersion Program is an option for students in kindergarten through 7th grade in the 2024–25 school year.Families may choose to enter our Mandarin Immersion Pathway or the English Pathway in Kindergarten and First Grade classrooms. Children with previous Mandarin-speaking experience may apply to join the Second through Seventh Grade Immersion classes.

- Meta-linguistic awareness and reading acquisition - Strong divergent thinking and problem solving skills - Increased attention and better memory - Greater tolerance and cultural sensitivity - Expands college and career potential - Improved standardized test performance - Better at planning and decision making
