Early College Program

Our Early College Program, through partnerships with Hawaii Pacific University (HPU) beginning in the 2017-2018 school year and the University of Hawai'i (UH) System in the Spring 2024 term, provides eligible students with the opportunity to enroll in college classes and earn dual credit as part of their high school coursework.

There is an interview and application process for participation in the HPU AA/Dual Credit Program. Students who are accepted attend classes on the HPU campus in the fall and spring semesters.

For interested and qualified juniors and seniors who enroll in an early college class through UH, they attend classes that are taught by the college professor and are held on the high school campus. There are some classes that are offered asynchronously.

  • HPU Partnership

Through an exciting partnership with Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU), Maryknoll High School juniors and seniors have the option of taking courses at HPU for dual credit.

Students who complete sufficient credits may even earn an HPU Associate of Arts degree at the same time as their Maryknoll School diploma, potentially resulting in significant savings of up to two years' worth of time and undergraduate tuition.

“HPU’s partnership with Maryknoll is a part of our commitment to approach higher education in an innovative way by giving students the ability to create personalized academic experiences, expedite the attainment of a college degree and equip graduates with the experience and skills to succeed.”

    – John Gotanda, President, Hawai‘i Pacific University

Why Should I Consider the Maryknoll-HPU Early College Program?

    • Students are exposed to the type of college curriculum that research has found to promote bachelor’s degree attainment.

    • Participate in the program may lower the cost of postsecondary education by enabling students to earn college credits and shorten their time to degree completion.

    • The program provides students with more realistic information about the academic and social skills that they will need in order to succeed in college through their participation in actual college courses.

    • Students receive first-hand experience in what campus life is like, which can help ease their transition from high school to college.

Our Maryknoll graduates are continuing at universities, including UH Mānoa, HPU, Stanford University, Columbia University, UC Berkeley, and Cornell University.

Earning Your HPU Associate of Arts Degree as a Maryknoll Student

Maryknoll High School students who meet eligibility requirements can earn a two-year Associate of Arts in General Studies (AA) degree from HPU at the same time as their Maryknoll high school diploma. This highly rigorous option is for students who commit to earning 60 HPU credits during their junior and senior years by taking most of their courses at HPU’s downtown Honolulu campus. Students may finish their four-year bachelor’s degree at HPU or at another college or university. Earning an AA degree during high school could mean significant financial savings on college tuition.
